i just did something pretty amazing on an og homepod with blinking volumes
when you get blinking volumes, many people think it is kaputted
i am furious with apple, not because of the blinking volumes, but because i was able to fix it - something which is good, but that i was able to fix it could lead to accusation of fraud against apple
so to fix it i used special cable, ipsw file, mac and some terminal commands
the github for terminal commands are at https://github.com/UnbendableStraw/homepod-restore
the base of the homepod can be pulled off and that will reveal the diagnostic port, which is not meant to be used at all by customers and the connector fits nicely inside allowing you to connect to computer
if you take to apple "genius" they will say hardware issue buy new one
like saying flat tyre in car so buy new car!
genius hey? fraudster more likely!
seriously!
software update bricks it, so apple lies, says hardware issue, buy new one - when it isn't hardware issue?
that is obtaining money by deception - the very legal definition of fraud.
if class action lawsuit comes i would happily join as witness
the only things i used apart from the connector was the mac, ipsw file and some terminal commands most of which i just copy-pasted
and the apple genius can't do this? sure he can. but that isn't his business. his business is FRAUD
