To start an essay body paragraph do you define your theme and then expand on the theme and how it is shown in the text through techniques, quotes and examples.

Please help. Not 100% sure.

Pretty much. Your first line should be your argument for that paragraph. Then you go on to explain it, give evidence and quotes, and show why both the evidence and your argument is relevant to the question.
