Hi guys I was just curious as to how your cohort affects your marks, I was wondering whether the marks were strictly distributed based on ranks or is it moderated a little given the highest and lowest marks as a range and the rest of the people within the range gets a moderated mark not strictly ranked 10 gets 10th highest mark? Additionally how does a strong cohort affect your marks do your marks get moderated up as well and if so how? And what would happen if your cohort has a strong upper half and a very weak bottom if you are above average? Thanks

they preserve the gaps between the ranks, so it isn't purely rank 10 gets 10th best mark. the top internal mark is the highest external mark, and the lowest internal mark is the lowest external mark. there's a 3rd reference point I think depending on the "strong upper half" thing i.e. the skew of your cohort in order to preserve this skew (probably, this part I'm unsure about). they then preserve the relative gap between each one. so if 3rd and 4th internally were close, this won't change.

hope this makes sense!
