How does repeating HSC courses work, if you missed out on the selections at` UNI? (1 Viewer)

Ok say you got a bad ATAR but you still signed up for the course at the school you wanted. You get rejected and want to re-submit your application at the next rounds which is like months away. Since this would be in the five year time frame that you can re-take courses, would it be a great idea to retake the courses you performed horribly at TAFE so that you can improve your ATAR in the time you are waiting and have a better chance in the next submission?



PS. I am new to this function of the ATAR, can anyone explain to me how this work? It would be really comforting if ever the most annoying totally lame were to occur. And can you take one new courses as well in this manner? Can you even attempt to apply for a course that cuts out before your ATAR? (if they have room for 200 and only 5 signed up)

I think you are correct, if I understood you right. But who would want to repeat courses just to get a slightly higher ATAR. In most cases when repeating you might end up with a worser mark mainly due to the boredom of not learning anything new and a "I already know this stuff" mentality. There are many pathways into university, and if you are really passionate about your desired course then you should have no trouble getting in.

there is a thing called pathways.. i know of someone who is doing it

and it is max 5 years of repeating the subject (if you want)

Yes, if you repeat you could end up with a worse ATAR.

Don't bother. Just go for a lower course, work harder in that and transfer.
