Hey guys, I'm genuinely curious with school rankings and how they affect atar results.
Can someone please give me an answer?
My school is just below 160, is that good?

In my school's case I think it is based on how the school marks their girls. My school is in the top 100 and they tend to grade and mark us pretty harshly in comparison to other schools. I'm not sure if 160 is a good ranking for your school.

Pretty decently ranked school. School rankings really only affect atar results in special circumstances. For example if you screw up externals and have a high internal rank, a higher ranked school will have you end up with a higher ranked internal mark as opposed to a lower ranked school. Also if your one of the average to below average students statewide, being in a higher ranked school will give you a much better internal mark as opposed to a lower ranked school.

However if you are a good student whose confident in that you won't screw up externals and what not, then it won't affect you.

Your school’s past ranking (which varies year to year and can be ranked in many different ways) is not a direct input into your ATAR and therefore has no effect.

The only so-called ‘effects’ are indirect ones, for example the school’s culture, its availability of resources, quality of teachers etc
