It starts at two, then heads to 6 by pi/2, then heads back to 2 by pi, then heads back to 6 by 3pi/2 and then head back to 2 by 2pi

therefore 4*4=16m

Find the position of the particle at seconds and at seconds.

Then, find the equation for the velocity of the particle and see if there are any times on where . If there are, find the position at those times as well.

Then, find the distances of each separate period of motion within and sum them.

A faster way is to recognise that is an equation of simple harmonic motion.

Since , it follows that the amplitude of motion is A = 2 m.

The period of the motion is , and over each complete period, the particle travels a distance of 4A in returning to its starting position. Here there are two complete periods.

Total distance travelled is 2 x 4A = 8A = 8 x 2 = 16 m.
