So it seems a lot of people are specifically doing the silver button cell. Is it still okay to specifically do the mercury button cell even though the dot point says only compare to the "button cell"? I'm a little worried

The dotpoint is

gather and present information on the structure and chemistry of a dry cell or lead-acid cell and evaluate it in comparison to one of the following:
button cell
fuel cell
vanadium redox cell
lithium cell
liquid junction photovoltaic device (eg the Gratzel cell)

Unless a mercury button cell is another name for one of those ^^^ you probably shouldn't risk it, just incase you don't get any marks for it

No, the button cell in HSC refers to the silver one - that's how it is in pretty much every textbook and notes that I've seen.
