Hi im doing commerce at unisyd

Im hoping to double major in econometrics and finance, is it possible?

Am i right in assuming that i will need to do these subjects for semester 1


Accounting 1A
intro microeconomics
Business and Economic Statistics A
Elective (financial accounting concepts? )


For my elective do i need to do financial accounting concepts

or with

acctng 1a
acctng 1b
intro microeconomics
intro macro economics
corporate finance
business economic statistics

will i have enough core subjects to major in finance?

or should i do coporate finance 1 and 2 in the 2nd year?

With 2nd semester

i was thinkig of

Acctng 1b
Intro macroeconomics
Buss info Systems
Elective (economics and business statistics b?)


For a degree majoring in finance/econometrics, do you think its smart that i choose

economic and business statistics b
financial accounting concepts

as my electives? will i need to do them both? to get a dble major?

also, with semester 1 elective- can i choose something from arts department, or do u think i should choose something i might use for my major/s later

A double major is 2 majors in the SAME subject. So you could say I'm doing a double major in Government

Two majors would be one major in one subject and another major in another subject. So you would then say I'm doing a Major in Government and Political Economy (for example)

Major in Commerce
Students select their Commerce major from a limited list of options. The number of additional units required for the major differs depending on whether the core units for the degree can be counted towards the chosen major, and depending on the prerequisites for senior units of study. Students must complete at least one major (or extended major) in Commerce to fulfill the requirements of their course. In total, a major consists of a minimum of 36 senior credit points (six senior units) in a single subject area.


Extended major in Commerce
An extended major in Commerce is an extension of the major and is selected from the same list of options. To achieve an extended major, students complete additional senior units or honours preparation units in the same subject area. An extended major consists of a minimum of 48 senior credit points (usually eight senior units) in a single subject area.


The major or extended major students choose will determine whether they can complete an additional major in the degree. Students should check the Faculty Handbook or the Undergraduate Majors section of the web site for information on the units which may be undertaken for a major or extended major.


Additional majors and/or electives
Students may select additional majors and/or electives offered by the Faculty of Economics and Business, or Faculty of Arts, Science, Education and Social Work or Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources. Due to prerequisites and other limitations not all combinations of majors are possible. Senior units of study cannot be counted towards more than one major or extended major.

It depends, if you really love Econometrics and Finance do a double major in one or both. On the otherhand, if you want a more holistic degree and wanna experience a broader range of discplines do a major in each, and use the remaining space to do interest/enjoyment subjects. You can always do an honours year at the end of the degree if you really enjoyed a major and want to enhance your qualifications in that field of study.

As for electives, eg. the first year one, if you wish you can do something from the Arts Faculty. I'm probably doing a Finance and Accounting Major and in first year I did a History subject and I'm doing another one this year.

how much would my timetable differ if i did a major in ecmt and a major in fin

instead of doing a dble major in both



i need to enrol tomorro morning, and am i right in saying i should enrol myself in

and for 2nd semester

if i want to do a dble major, am i still allowed to do that history elective in first yr?

and should i change if i want a single major in both ecmt and fin

im guessing that i get to choose if i dble major or single major in 2 area's in the 2nd year right?


i really like other areas of uni that interest me, so other elective subjects look appealing, but i also like the fin/ecmt areas and id like to get the best possible degree for further reference

any other info u could add?
