Hey, I need help with these questions:

1) Find equatiion of locus of point P(x,y) subject to:

squareroot 2 unites from line with equation y=x

2) The distance of a point from line y=-5 is three quarters of distance from y-axis

1):

Use the perpendicular distance formula of a point to a line, and the line is y=x right? so it's general form is x-y=0




Therefore either:

2) Use the same formula, which i can't be bothered to type already, just make the distance to the line y=-5 and x=0 the ratio they want, then the formula come out.

Question 2 is actually wrong. Its meant to be:

The distance of a point from the line y=-5 is three quarters of its distance from x =2

Note: Anyone attempting this question from the Fitzpatrick book, there are two answers for both questions. If you have the older edition the back of the book may only display one answer.
