hrmm in terms of uai, it depends on how many students want to do the course. You probs already know that the uai for the city is higher than kuring gai due to the spaces that they offer. If the system is still the same, you'll get an interview if you put nursing at kg first on the preference list with a uai >66. u get interview points added to the uai.

i did SDD, general maths (dropped from 2U), advance eng, business and legal studies.

What do you think is the hardest subject in 1st year? Is 91531 hard? I have a quiz(91531) tomorrow!

Is there a set list of hospitals for the pracs if you go to kg and one for the city?
And do they take into consideration where you live as to where you go?
Anyone know much about this?

Hey, I'm a 2nd year nursing student at the city campus.

As for clinical placements, they say it's based on post code. It was for my first placement, but my second was at RNS which is about 30 mins from me. I reckon they got lazy :p

i assume thats patho? lol sorry late reply.
just do the lab work and pay attention in lectures (hard to do) and you will be fine!
;)

the questions about placement people have already answered,
in the groups you would have both intake of city and kg students.

hello chickens!

i'm in my 3rd year (W00T!!), doing my PD1 placement at RPA, upper GIT (+colorectal). sounds bloody awful but the nurses are great and it's really interesting. i'm surprised the only poo i've had to deal with was someone giving me a jug full of bowel contents after they emptied their stoma so i could measure the amount.

i t/f from Newcastle uni (fantastic campus/uni, but course was a little sketchy) and did my 2nd year at UTS.

i also work as an AIN at RNSH on the casual pool (been working there since the end of 1st year) but i mostly just book shifts on the aged care ward. heavy work but the staff and pts are lovely & often hilarious. it's helped my studies a whole lot.

only this long until i finish.....!

btw - my UAI was 67.70 and i was accepted into the BN/BA which has a cutoff around 80-something (i turned it down cos i didn't think i'd be able to save enough money to go overseas for a year!)

to get in they looked at my STAT & 1st year uni results (both pretty good) + my statement saying why i should get accepted. so if you don't get in at first go based on your UAI there are plenty of ways to get things looking better.

Im hoping for UAI of around high 80s to 90s so i think i should be right to get in hopefully....

Btw have many ppl in ur classes been put on placement for paediatrics and what hosps? Cause this is what has interested me so im just wondering what the changes are etc...

if you think your UAI won't be high enough (or even if you think it will be) do the STAT and submit a personal statement - it does make a difference.

hospitals range from westmead in the west, hornsby in the north (not sure if they go all the way to central coast), st vincents in the east and st george in the south (again, not sure if they go any further south).

i don't think anyone gets to go to paeds until 3rd year - you can choose it as your submajor (2 x half semester subjects/pracs) and elective (1 x half sem subject/prac).
even when you do the children's nursing subject in 2nd year they send you to a childcare centre so you can first learn about how kids minds work before you realyl get into how their bodies work.

i'm still not sure where i want to end up, specialty-wise. i think i'm leaning towards something like palliative care.

:) Hey, I'm interested in doing paediatrics too.

Does anybody know what course you should take if you want to be a paediatrition? I have no idea whether I want to be a nurse that specialises in paediatrics or a padiatritition. (do you just take the nursing course???)
Thanks:wave:

a paediatritian is a doctor who has specialised in paeds, so you'd need to do med first (+ about 8-10 years working/study)

however once you're a nurse you can specialise in paeds and do post-grad study + experience to become a nurse specialist.
