yes!...

unfortunately my notes aren't typed.. plus i don't have any on motors and generators I only have some for space... and i presume ur half yearly is on both...

but yeh i'll try help out if there are any questions u may have...

my physics half yearly isn't until week 4 term 2 which gives me the entire holiday to study... hehe

man my exam timetable is screwed i got chem on tuesday of that week also

An inertial frame of reference can best be described as:

a) a frame of reference moving at the speed of light
b) a stationary frame of reference with inertia
c) a frame of recenge used in inertial relativity
d) a frame of reference in which Newton's first law is true

if I came across this question, i'd be pretty stumped. Because the answer is not what u'd think it to be.

Not exactly a challenging question but it'll get u revising basics...


An astronaut throws a 1.5 kg hammer at 22.5 m/s at 20o to the vertical from the surface of Venus, gravitational acceleration 8.9 m/s2

( a ) Calculate the vertical and horizontal components of the velocity of the hammer

( b ) Calculate its time of flight

( c ) Calculate how high the hammer rises

( d ) Calculate its range

( e ) Calculate its velocity on hitting the surface of Venus

Extension Question

A stone is thrown vertically upwards with a velocity of 29.4 m/s from the edge of a cliff 78.4 m high. The stone falls so that it just misses the edge of the cliff and falls to the ground at the foot of the cliff. Determine the time taken by the stone to reach the ground.

Time to reach max height = 29.4/9.8 = 3 seconds

Max height:
S = ut + 1/2at<sup>2</sup>
= 29.4*3 - 1/2*9.8*9
=44.1 meters.

Therefore distance to ground = 44.1 + 78.4 = 122.5m

Velocity at base of cliff = &radic;(2*9.8*122.5)= 49ms<sup>-1</sup> (from v<sup>2</sup> = u<sup>2</sup> + 2as)

then calculating time of fall
v= u + at (u = 0)
t= v/a = 5 seconds

So the overall trip took 3 + 5 = 8 seconds.

this is the one our teacher asked us to do for hw so i decided to type it up instead of writing it out so i could share with u guys

its dot point 3.11 the last one of section 3 for ideas to implementation

it goes like this

my half yearly will only assess motors and generators. space will be included, but it will not go towards the HSC assesment mark.

I agree with physician on choice (d) but still got a q here - isn't the defn of a inertial frame of reference the one in which All Laws of Physics apply? Obviously Newton's first law is just a specific case of it... :cool:

It's great that ur actually searching for notes for prelim.. i never really knew the importance of notes until yr 12.. and although they weren't important for yr 11.. it provides good practice for yr 12...

unfortunately i don't have notes for prelim... but i just thought that what ur doing is great
