H-R diagram is basically description of stars astronomers have observed over the past century and ploted them in groups based on their luminosity against effective temperature

well i try to make my self more clearer... by what we see in the H-R we can determine the age of cluster and such right? what else can we learn?

Hmm, its not that hard an assessment that we got. However, as our teacher suggested, READ everything thats in Astrophysics, and hint, look at section 6 of astrophysics inparticular..

The assessment will focus more on astrophysics. Probably the best site which offers good info is the csiro site.
