Getting Adsl need help (2 Viewers)

hey all basically ill be gettin adsl in a month wif exetel and i just wanted to know wats the difference btw adsl modems, how come there are modems that cost under 100 and sum at about 150?, also wat adsl modem would u recommend me getting ?

it doesn't really matter, the more expensive ones might have built in firewall and more features.

if you on budget, just get cheapest.

but keep in mind a modem will last you several years.

Basically just shop around and you are bound to find huge differences in prices of indentical products

If you have more than one computer, you might consider an adsl modem/router so you can share the internet connection.

I prefer an ethernet connection rather than USB2.0 cause it's faster, plus you don't have to have the computer on for other computers to be able to access the internet.

Some have more user friendly interfaces than others too. Go for what you can afford - whirlpool.net.au has a few good reviews on modems.

avoid dynalink modems (esp. the DSL-200) and like the person above said, get ethernet instead of USB if possible.

i heard ethernet is faster than usb. i can use both but i use usb because it was easier to setup and havent been bothered to change.

i ran out

have to get a decent hub

managed to scam 3 free usb hubs. unfortunately, it's only 1.1 and 4 port.

USB u have to install drivers... LAN is more reliable...

Theoretically USB is slower than Ethernet although there's not always a noticeable difference for everyday users. It's more to do with sharing your internet connection with multiple PCs, and compatibility with drivers.

If you only have USB and not a network card (you don't have an ethernet port at the back of your computer) then it's fine to use USB.

i'm on cable and i use usb
i don't use network cos that's for my home network
and i don't go from cable to router cos i need an external IP directly to my computer



oh yeah, cbf configuring NAT and port forwarding
