It used to be part of the HSC English course; my sister did it in 2007. It isn't now however, so I don't see why it should be "frowned upon". Good show; smart, witty. Use it if you can, it's very flexible.
It's frowned upon because there's so much material on it [because it was a past HSC text], that it could be seen as an 'easy way out'. [LOL Jacob - Barr mentioned it in class the other day]
It's frowned upon due it being a past prescribed text, there are too many notes on it. By using it- you are not showing the markers that you know what you are talking about, only that you know how to reword and rework already written up information.
