I have to choose some Finance options to do. Anyone have any tips? What have your experiences been like? I was thinking about ACF but everyone was going on about how hard and crap it is. Is it really that bad?

What are Bank Financial Mgmt and International Banking like?

Does Wealth Mgmt have alot of maths like Portfolio? I wouldnt mind something similar to that.

BFM and WM are reputed to be shit easy.

How about IMM, Options or Interest Rate Risk Mgmt?

I was told that ACF is really useful. Although I've also been told that it is hard.

Alot of people also pick Options (FINS3635). Apparently that's also difficult.

But then again, everything should be harder if you're comparing to some of the core finance subjects.

If you like maths so much, why don't you take topology and differential geometry :p

Is this because most Commerce students are mathematically challenged (except for actuarial students)?

I hear IMM isn't bad, the other two I have no real comment on, except people have said they are very time consuming and thus the reputation of being hard.

If it has to do with the maths, I don't know. If anyone has done the courses, IMM, Options, Interest Rate Mgmt, then speak up.

YOu should listen to lecturers in class, especially to answers to your questions:

anyway, my point was if it is too mathematical I bet it will not be generally applicable

What kind of stuff did you learn in Wealth Management? Was it a complete waste of time?

I think there is differential geometry over multi-dimensional stochastic processes. eg interest rate models

Also, I read something called the "Physics of Finance", which uses some differential geometry/relativity concepts and its parallels to the concept of PV. Somehing called the Gauge Theory of Arbitrage.

Sera; I think IMM is a pre-req for SIM (but u probably knew that)

Ive done real estate finance + options

RE is alright - no textbook, 3 hour lectures, but the exams are tricky

Options is pretty difficult in subject (although very interesting and practical!) - but im sure they dumb down the exams coz the average for the MS (worth 45) was a high credit.

Did RE involve alot of investment and startegies type stuff or was it more of a personal real estate thing and mortgages?

wealth management is about taxes, superannuation, insurance, estate planning, etc etc.. you know the stuff that you get sent by a super fund.

im gonna do acf and securities analysis next session

acf because of the 2 hour presentation

securities because no final exams unless they changed it
