Failed School Mark ATAR still ok? (1 Viewer)

I have a friend doing HSC this year but he failed some of his School assessments, is he going to flop in his ATAR mark even if he gets a good mark in HSC?
BTW his school rank is 200-150

1. Define 'fail' in regards to school assessments- what is his rank and out of how many people?
2. What is a good mark in the externals?
3. What ATAR does he consider good/flop?

2.90s
3.Good-80-90 Flop-70 and below

Depends on his subjects. You can sort of afford to "fail" subjects like 4U and 3U Mathematics but "failing" subjects like CAFS would be detrimental.
