would it be a good idea to do extra things in years11-12? (eg: public speaking, debating etc)

Yes it is, especially in year 11 when you have more time for things like that. Join the SRC too. It may help you gain a scholarship for Uni. Don't do too many extra curricula activities. You still need time for your studies too.

Find a balance. They're useful if you want a scholarship or a nice CV.

Yeh I regret doing nothing of this nature. Couldn't apply for any scholarships (well I could have, but it'd be useless).
Leadership type stuff is awesome.

same here. But we can still apply for it after 1st semster/ 1year. ;D

I regret not doing these things
it will get you a scholarship and plus, its good for your resume

but don't neglect your studying
