Through Nick’s romanticised/subjective/idolised narration which he ironically expresses is ‘inclined to reserve all judgments’, the unethical and careless character/behaviour of Gatsby is highlighted to the readers when they read closer/deeper into Gatsby’s character and background. Gatsby was “a penniless young man” and became a noveau riche by conducting bootlegging activity as he “bought up a lot of side-street drug-stores here and in Chicago.”

For this line:
- Gatsby was “a penniless young man” and became a noveau riche by conducting bootlegging activity as he “bought up a lot of side-street drug-stores here and in Chicago.”
- I somehow need to fit in a technique analysis in this sentence but I can't seem to fit it in
--> I wanted to use a negative connotation to show that Gatsby is unethical but if there're better ones then please do say! Thank you so much.

It seems that the descriptive language employed in this quote, which visibly depicts Gatsby as a "penniless" and "young" man, concurrently expresses negative connotations associated with the unethical nature of Gatsby's behaviour manifested in his bootlegging activity as he "bought up a lot of side-street drug-stores here and in Chicago". Through such negative connotations, the author emphasises his attempt to evoke pity from the reader, particularly due to Gatsby's rather young age, indicating the severity of the situation where a young individual experiences financial difficulties.

Also, be mindful of the correct spelling of nouveau riche throughout your response.

I hope this helps! :D
