Our teacher just has us analysing Ray Bradbury texts. We did an essay on change without any real preparation.

Is this just me or are the teachers winging English just as much as we are.

She said that unlike 7-10, we wouldn't go into English Assessments unprepared but I fell more so than ever.

I tried to memorise my story but that sort of failed. I think ill get around the C or B range.

Does anyone else agree that English especially advanced is complete bullshit?

Change? What the F*** is change going to help us in the world? Where does the fricking BOS get this shit from?

And what the hell is with this 'related text' shit?

Advanced english is bullshit, so use it to write better in your essays =D

To be more prepared, write lots of practice essays OR learn your notes and key points OR write a very generic essay, memorise and try manipulate OR get a tutor to write it for you and risk failing hsc =D <-- plagiarism = NG

its just your teacher, my teacher explains bullshit good =D

Related text is something related to your module or rubic, im guessing thats something related to change.

Could me a movie, photo, book, cartoon who knows. Just aslong as it has change in it.

I suppose, I just wish I had a decent english teacher.
English is not difficult but really easy either...
Does anyone reckon that the teacher you have (for english) really matters?

For all of you who think english ideas are pointless/you can just make up shit/whatever- you're fucking idiots who are going to fail terribly in y11+12. Have fun!

Btw, your mark isn't determined by what your marker thinks- a sophisticated, coherent and PLAUSIBLE essay that answers the q will score top marks even if you raise issues that aren't mainstream.

Sorry, but I think Ebony is right. English is totally bullshit and possibly marked more by the markers mood rather than what they think of your response.

that could be said of any subject, Phoenix Fury
but they can and will be pulled up for inapproprietly marking a paper -- its double marked, and an descrepancy is sorted out between the head marker and the markers with the descrepancy.
sooo yeah

i love english, and i love my teacher
i guess i just got lucky.

I suppose you are right about the head marker sorting out descrepancies, however that is only in exams. In assessment tasks it's just your teacher unfortunately.

Also my main point is that of the teacher being... well... quite poor frankly.

P.S. How come everone is saying they 'have bad marks so far' and all this when all I've got back is a maths AT?

Yeah, I didn't mean you meant english was bullshit Ebony, just that I agreed with your point.

I should have chucked it on another line.
and apparently it's only every 3rd paper that is checked.

ahhh, well, i concur then, i guess in some cases.
generally i know though, we have a fairly dedicated and well rounded english teacher who has being doing hsc marking for years, so ive never felt at all disadvantaged or whatever by her moods or her motives.

I like English, but I get done over by it soooo hard!!! I'm expecting about 75% in my half yearly exam on friday. I just don't get how to write essays well!!!! I wish there was like some way that you could apply to each essay to get full marks... I'm good at writing stories, cause you don't have to argue some gay crap about the 'social implications' of some lame metaphor... anyone else struggling with english, and scared by the exams??

Thankfully I'm not 'struggling' in the true sense of the word.
Why are you doing your half-year exams now?
Shouldn't that be at the start of term 2?

essay writing i find more relaxing than stories. (ive been guessing our assessment questions since my year 11 mid terms so i guess that helps too.)

We are at the end of our term 2 (term 1 for all other grades), doesn't everyone do one term of year 12 instead of 4th term of year 11??? BUT I SUCK AT ENGLISH!! ARGH!!!
