Should I do Academic Writing or not?

Could anyone give me an idea about what exactly you learn e.i. an outline. Also weither it's actually worth learning, will it actualy help me in other subjects?

my sister did engl1000 in usyd, and she says its a good idea, particularly if you are in your first couple of years in uni. it allows you to get an insight into academic writing in university standards with the aid of an 'almost-like-yr11-12' tutor and lecturer.

the idea in this unit, is that you write a paper in regards to a subject you are most fond of (considering it is one of the subjects listed in the ideas of interest- and most likely, it would be).

you learn to criticise writing in all factors of academic writing, which is definitely the best way to learn good academic writing.
