Hello,

For year 11 currently, term 3, my results overall are not bad (I attend a school ranked around the 80's) most of my subjects are A and are around 83-87 range. However I'm not doing well in my extension subjects, barely passing ext math and English like around 50's. I'm definitely going to drop extension English and will still continue trying in ext math. I was just wondering if these results will affect my early entry even if I drop it next term ( ext English). Thanks

There are a couple of factors that are likely relevant in terms of year 11 subject grades and early entry schemes that consider them. First, depending on when you drop a subject, NESA may or may not record it as being completed. For example, if you drop English Extension before the end of year 11 (more specifically, before completing all assessment tasks/exams of the year 11 course), NESA will not record it, and it will appear as if you never took the subject. However, if you drop English Extension after you complete all your year 11 assessment tasks/exams (i.e. around the end of year 11 or start of year 12), NESA will record that you completed the English Extension year 11 course, including your grade for it. The reason that this is important is that universities refer to this record when considering your year 11 grades as part of assessing your early entry application. As such, if English Extension is not recorded, it will not be considered altogether.

On the other hand, if NESA considers that you completed the English Extension year 11 course and records your grade, whether universities will consider your grade in this subject may depend on elements such as degree relevance. With that being said, if most of your year 11 subject grades are in the A range, it would be reasonable to suggest that you will have a good chance of receiving an early offer, even if English Extension ends up being included/considered.

I hope this helps! :D

Thanks a lot for the insight. However I kind of did myself over as I chose double extension and only sitting at 12 units so I am forced to continue on with it. But that's just my poor planning. Thanks again.
