I'm just confused about how much the school exam and the major work are worth.

Within school (ie. internally), it's 80% for the Project; 20% for exams. But remember, it's not a "major work"; just a heavily weighted assessment, so Historiography is quite important when it comes to exam time.

Like all other subjects the internal moderated marks make up 50% of the final mark - so the project, which is 80% of the internal mark is 40% of your final mark.

Yeah, at my school 80% is the project and only 20% is the trials. (So overall 40% project, 10% trials with the external HSC exam being 50%)

It works out 40% of course time on major project, 60% on case study and historiography.
