Joe Tripodi has been included in Bob Carr's Cabinet as housing minister. He used
"numbers men" to get his spot and he was involved in the orange grove fiasco. On the other hand he is increasing in popularity. Do you think he deserves his spot in the cabinet as Housing Minister?

the labor party are full of numbers men, candidates arent chosen by local branches including local members like they should be, instead candidates r chosen by the alp office (like reba meagher, from north shore, never lived in cabra but represents cabra, wtf), theres 2 much "power brokering" and "faction forcing" amongst the lot, theres 60/40 control of union to alp memebers, but that isnt good, because unions membership is slowly declining. 50% of aussie workforce was once union members, in 1960's-70's, but that has dropped dramatically to around 33% since the deregualtion of the labour market in the 1980s, especially the removal of wage indexation. i think there industrial relations policies r becoming redundant. but i vote for them over the coalition, with health and education in mind of course

Firstly candidates, on the most part, are selected by their local branches. Unfortunately branch-stacking has been known to occur but it is well and truly on the way out.

Secondly, unions have 50% control - not 60% in recognition of their growing irrelevance. Bear in mind that the ALP is just the political arm of the union movement and is essentially dependent on union donations.

Unfortunately some hacks like Reba Meagher and Joe Tripodi get into parliament and we need to stop that but its not like the Liberals are any better.
