Hi,

I'm just starting at Newcastle Uni. Does anyone know if there are services for disabled students? If so, what are they like?

the disability facilities are pretty decent i think, they have a large adaptive technology centre, the dis. support uni can arrange note takers and alternate exam arrangements, stuff like that i think. You can also contact them in the student services building.

I always wondered about those peer notes, half the lecs I go to arent really 'note-worthy', so what do they scribble for an hour??? I remember one lecture for classroom management (or some other idealistic subject, cant quite remember), my only notes were "flowers are red", which was a direct quote from the lecture, and a short poem about pirates and cheese, which was not a direct quote oddly enough.

You haven't had the pleasure of classroom management? Well expect some shocks, did you realise hitting students is no longer recognised as a good management style? :p

What year are you SJ?

We didn't even get the option of a prac in first year, though we did get to sit in on a primary school class for a couple sessions.

And prac's pretty fun, well, when you take out all the dull parts it's pretty fun, and at least you get some interesting stories out of it.
