The internet is a great rescource for information and data but is it just me or is anyone else finding it hard to find sites that aren't blocked by the department of education. It is coming to a point where it is difficult to use the internet to study at school. I was under the impression that these passwords that they were giving us were so they could moniter out web-surfing and stop people who were looking at porn or whatever doing that. It seems unnecessary for us to even have the passwords if everything is blocked. Is there anyone who agree's with me or has any solutions? I as an idividual feel that it is becoming impractically difficult to study on the internet at school.

Of course it's a hindrance. Name one form of censorship that isn't.

For study purposes it usually suffices to just hit the cached link on Google, no need for any fancy tunnel sites or whatever.

Yeah, the DET portal is a bit annoying. You might as well do the computing related work at home. Ever since the introduction of DET portal, the number of juniors playing flash games in the library has dramatically decreased. Now that most of those game sites are blocked, people are turning to play offline GTA and CS in school library, lol

I mostly use computers to do word processing and Wiki stuff, so its no troubles for me.

ahahah. the juniors in my library has also decreased to ! you can finally book a comp without coming to school half an hour before it starts ! ^^

but yeah. it's a bitch that det portal thing. i give my password out to everyone and tell them to go look at porn. ah, they even block sites for bridge structures ! they might as well not give us access to the internet.

bless the people in my year for spreading CS around the school. <33. =]

Well internet safety is all the rage at the moment. Usability isn't so important. :p

Its a help. Better than no internet at all, imagine what it was like pre 1991 when the net was invented then pre 1995 before most schools probably got it

Sing your praise for Tim Berners Lee!

Um yeah, that doesn't make it a help.

I disagree. It doesn't help at all. It's worse than having no internet as teachers expect us to go on and do some work, where in reality we can't as everything's blocked. I'd rather get a textbook and use that time to do some proper research than just try to find sites which are constantly blocked, and those who aren't, are just completely useless.

I think that BOS should still keep the Portal thing running but allow us to properly access the internet. What's the point of monitoring us when we really can't get into anything at all?

That's what I mean. I thought that we could, when we got this portal thing we could still look at whatever we wanted but that if we did look at... I don't know monkey porn or something we'd get blocked.
