Hello all,
The ATAR or ENTER for Dentistry for the 09' intake was indeed 99.7 for first round.
However, you can get in with a 99.3+ in second and third round offers; this is not guaranteed. Second and third rounds are based on other criteria including, but not limited to, your performance in a pre-requisite subject.
For instance, a student with 99.4 may not have been offered a place because their Chemistry is just at the cut-off of the minimum 35 (VIC). Another student with a 48 in Chemistry and ENTER of 99.3 may have been selected over this student.
As said, to be guaranteed a place you would have needed a 99.7 or higher.
La Trobe University life is great fun. Being a rural school (90 minutes from the CBD), it is reasonable to surmise that all would board there. Boarding life is exciting and carefree. Tuesday and Thursday nights are our club/bar nights and almost everyone boarding on campus go out to party.
The course offered at La Trobe is fantastic. We have specialist in EVERY field of Dentistry and Medicine teaching us a vast range of materials including:
Dentistry - Orthodontics, Endodontics, Maxillofacial Surgery, Periodontics, Pedodontics and more.
Medicine Subjects include (each taught by their respective specialist): Cardiology, Endocrinology, Haematology, Neurology, Psychiatry, Palliative care; to just name a few.
The facility currently at la trobe for our Dentistry and Oral Health Department is quoted to be world standard. We do clinical practice on mannequins. We sit in long rows of about 8 chairs with about 30-40 chairs per lab. Each chair also has a computer monitor which displays the day's tasks and procedures/instructions. There are about 2-3 Dentist demonstrators there to assist.
Also offered for Dentistry/Oral Health students is our club: BOHDS (Bendigo Oral Health and Dentistry Society).
We hold Formals (Balls), laser tag outings, movie nights, bowling, cocktail parties and more.
This is a fantastic course. Competition for 10' intake will be fierce. As noted, La Trobe will be the only University offering Dentistry in 10' (Melbourne University is taking a 1 year break and will not be offering any places whatsoever. Recommencing in 11' with a post-grad Melbourne Model). The expected clearly in for La Trobe Dentistry for 10' is 99.8.
Places offered: 40 (approx. 10% reserved for rural and another 10% for transfers). A more accurate places offered for undergrads would be 30-34.
All places are CSP. La Trobe does not offer full-fee or international places.
Best of luck. I hope to see EVERYONE here next year. We have HEAPS of students from Sydney, Perth etc.
If you have additional information, feel free to post here or PM me.
