Would anybody be so kind as to show me the products of the reaction between cyclohexene and potassium permanganate please?
C6H10 (l) + KMnO4 (aq) -> ?
Thankyou to anybody who can answer within 24 hours from now. If not, I'll have the answer tomorow (when I can grab a hold of my chemistry book).
My guess is 1,2-Cyclohexanediol + Manganese dioxide + Potassium on its own?
Hm... potassium wouldn't be on its own.
PS: The potassium permanganate was acidified with sulfuric acid, but I believe the acid was just a catalyst (am I right?).
My second guess would be:
Cyclohexene + potassium permanganate + water -> 1,2-Cyclohexanediol + manganese dioxide + potassium hydroxide
Though I haven't been able to balance the latter.
