I know this may have been posted up a few times. but i was wondering that since you need like a high distinction/ distinction average throughout the first, second or third year of the course to be considered into medicine...which science should one do? I mean...there is Science adv which is alot harder than the regular science course and therefore it is easier to get the marks you need right?
Is that how it works? or do they put into consideration how the difficulty of the two.

no, in advanced science you have to pick SOME advanced courses depends in what field of specialisation you want to get in. and adv science includes a 4th year honour...so i don't think you want to do an extra year since you want to get into med.

try B Science or B medical science. they are both 3 years.

This question has been asked millions of times and my short and simple answer is...do anything (preferably science related as this gives a slight advantage in the GAMSAT). You see, there's no advantage in doing BMedSc over BSc (Adv) or whatnot. Just keep in mind that you can think of BMedSc as a BSc with compulsory units and therefore it's not too great unless you're satisfied with a research career should you fail to enter via GAMSAT. As for Advanced Science, it takes longer and is harder, but you get scaled more. All in all, take the one which appeals to you the most in terms of structure andcontent and length of duration. Another important question to ask is whether you'll be satisfied with the degree if you don't end up in medicine.

You should also remember that the GAMSAT is similar to the UMAT in that logic and deductive reasoning are essential. You must read long tracts of imformation and respond to short answer questions in a limited amount of time. In that sense, I personally believe that a humanities component would be highly advantageous as it equips you with such skills and indicates to the university that you have a broad perspective and interest in the world. Courses such as BSc/BArts of BLiberalStudies are good for this.

What I mean to say is that...the units are 'advanced' and as such, even though the marks may indicate that a candidate should fail, the unit difficulty is taken into consideration.

you do advanced units in medical science and science too....
for instance i'm taking Advanced genetics, advanced biochemistry and advanced molecular biology in 2005. so how does that make advanced science harder?? In advanced science, you don't have to pick all advanced units. But i'm picking all advanced units in my degree.

except in advanced science advanced units are compulsory

yeah, 2 courses must be at advanced levels where available, but I still don't get how it is harder? Just because in medical science/science advanced courses are not compulsory, doesn't make advanced science "harder"....
And in most areas like pscychology/pharmacology where there are no advanced units, does it make advanced science harder than Science??

i thought it would..
well not for the pharm/psycho stuff..
but for lik maths ..considering that when u dun do adv units its easier.. well thats from my experience..

since i can do adv and non-adv units in the same course here.. i notice a mark difference in difficulty.. i dunno bout USYD and UNSW.. but i figure its the same..
some parts of the non-adv are a bit remedial... till u want to kill the tutor..
