Councils pay for brothel sex (Sunday Telegraph, 21/01/07)

SYDNEY councils are paying private detectives thousands of dollars to have sex with prostitutes so they can gather sufficient proof against illegal brothels.

Nine councils across Sydney have forked out $25,000 in fees to private investigators over the past three years.

The Sunday Telegraph has learned that Ku-ring-gai Council spent $7000 in the past month employing detectives to have sex with prostitutes.

Ku-ring-gai mayor Nick Ebbeck said the extreme measures were necessary to prove the businesses were illegal. [...]
Sex spy Private Eye's report

So is this a legitimate use of resident's rates to ensure a conviction? Or is it staggering misappropriation of council funds?

Should as the State Opposition says, the focus be on shifting the onus of proof back onto brothel operators, thereby making such actions by council unnecessary?

Those detectives must love being asked "So what do you do for a living?"...

EDIT: After reading the article... I wonder if the $7000 paid to investigators is their salary and if it's inclusive of the actual charges... not sure why but I was under the impression prostitutes were like >$500 or something.

Imagine what Workcover would do if one of those detectives caught an STD or something from the lack of condom...

Interesting.

Not sure how that would prove that the brothel isnt really a brothel. But while we are on the subject, there is much kinky scientific research going on in the area of human sexual arousal.
Scientific research on "Is porn is arousing"?

Fuck, may as well scientifically research "If oxygen exists"

what a waste of money. Who cares if its an illegal brothel [unless we are talking one of those sex slave ones, in which case raid that joint] we arent america, prostitution is legal here, and even 'illegal prostitution' no1 really cares about. People having been buying and selling sex for thousands of years and its the oldest profession around[next to hunting/farming/ midwifery and a few others]
