Hey

I play the violin. I'll be done with 8th grade this year, but the thing is my theory is really bad - however i am a very talented performer, my teacher wants me to go play with the sydney youth orchestra next year. My uai will probably be in the low 70's. Any chance of getting in? (Want to do Performance).

Thanks!

it should be very possible if you learn music theory and work on your aural skills. Even from nothing its still possible if you put time into it.

But no you cannot get in without learning theory

Part of the entry criteria for all 'specialties' (performance, musicology or composition) is a theory test, IIRC. It's not just aural but actual 'theory theory'.
