I wouldn't worry too much. I was, and still am, a diehard Excel hater. Although I've come to love Excel in various twisted ways.

If you want to do well, you should probably play with Excel a little bit. The most I can do is create graphs, add/multiply/subtract/divide one cell by another, and use goal seek, thats it

If you are going to do actuarial studies, then be prepare to learn independantly. They sure as hell don't bother to teach you how to use Excel, you should be able to figure it out, they do provide a step by step tutorial.
How can it be unexpected? If you choose an actuarial career path, you will most likely spend the rest of it looking at spreadsheets.

And you do some VBA work which is always fun!

But I'm not sure which PASS class §eraphim is referring to, I thought they only run it for first year economics and accounting.
