hey. im gonna be doing bcomm/bsc. it says that u need at least 24uoc of level 1 (first yr) science subjects. well, atm im doing maths and i plan to do COMP1091 Solving Problems With Software. the study plan recommends that i do MATH1081 Discrete Mathematics but i would prefer to try something else. Does COMP1081 Harnessing the Power of Information Technology count as a first yr science subject? What about PSYC1001 Psychology 1A?

thanks

PSYC1001 - yes

if they recommend it; you should do it cos you find most of the time that the subjects overlap a little
im not too sure about the COMP1091 though

discrete maths is booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooring
horrible subject
but somewhat useful/related to computing

Serious? I heard it's like 4u probability, and was hence looking forward to it...

a portion of it is like extraordinary 4u probability... but for the rest is liknda like HSC physics... in a sense discrete is "wordy" mathematics.

I know, but personally it's my favourite topic, and would also come close to being my easiest.

if in doubt, check the handbook as to what counts as a science subject. otherwise email the fce academic advisor- shes really nice and helpful

I think discrete maths looks awesome, too.

okrai, heres the rundown:

sets : basic stuff
number theory : boring, annoying
relations : boring, not too easy to understand
logic : interesting, not too hard, fun in the sense that you can piss off someone using mathematical notation easier
proofing : sucks
graph theory : easy, pseudo-fun, understandable
recursion bits : hard as, but i managed to cram it within 2 days. 1711 helps maybe.

of crouse, this is discrete maths

we've only done up to graphs right now... proofs prolly the hardest part ... but i gotta say the most annoying thing is the memorisation of the names for logic... modus this modus that, conjuctive this , synogiglcxncbncvlism that... ><
