Are they that detrimental?
Absolutely RIGHT! i know people who study maybe 10 hours a day and get poor results (from trials) because they dont take breaks and hence study inefficiently or they might call 10 hours at the Library ---> study. If you can get 4hours a day of productive study then your on the right track to maybe taking a "day off"nope. a break day is good to give your mind a break, and you end up being 10 times more productive and GET THINGS DONE- thats the main thing, not how many hours you study, but how much you gain from what you studied.
