Yo,
Got 2 questions

1. Is it true the HSC take only your best 10 units?
Im doing chem, phys, bio, ext 1 maths, eng adv
So 11 units altogether. Does this mean my ext 1 math mark is pointless?
2. Can someone kindly explain how bonus points really work? Im confused as to whether they increase points to get into a course at a uni or if it lowers the requirement down

Thanks

1) It isn't worthless. Let's say you do the worst in chemistry, then the following will count:

2 units of physics, 2 units of biology, 1 unit of ext 1 maths, 2 units of 2 unit maths, 2 units of english, 1 unit of chem

This is because each subject is split up into individual units for an aggregate or something

Each unit is worth 50 marks

UAC takes your mark and scales it accordingly through some iterative process (so that a 80 in MX2 is worth more than an 80 in Visual Arts, for example), this process depends on how well students who do each course do in all their other courses. Then 2 units of English + Your 8 other highest units are added together to give you an aggregate mark out of 500 - students are then ordered by their aggregates and your percentile becomes your ATAR. Here's a table showing the aggregate/ATAR relationship over the years.
