Just kidding Bonus points (which do not change your actual ATAR but only "boost your ATAR" as maycat said) may be given because a candidate: Got high marks in subjects/courses related to the uni course they are applying for (dependent on uni and course beign applied to) Got a scholarship which includes bonus points such as UNSW's AAA scholarship Live or went to school in a high priority area for the uni for eg Western Sydney kids who apply to UWS Have been granted EAS bonus points for various personal disadvantages (very hard to qualify for these)
