THE family of Jake Flannery said "wonderful memories" of the 19-year-old, killed in a freak accident in Bali at the weekend, are helping them get through. "Jake was a wonderful boy who gave so much love to everyone," the Flannery family said in a statement this afternoon. "He had a wonderful life ahead of him and it’s such a tragedy that it’s been cut short."
"The reason we are going to Bali today is to bring Jake home and to thank the people who helped him over there. We also want to make peace."
The NSW school leaver was electrocuted when he came into contact with a live wire connected to a neon sign while celebrating with friends.
The family thanked the media "who have treated our loss with respect" and acknowledged the support from the Foreign Affairs Department and Australian consulate in Indonesia, Gosford High School, The Entrance Hockey Club and Toowoon Bay Surf Club.
They asked people to respect their privacy.
Yesterday as friends reanacted his tragic death in Bali, others gathered to remember a Jake that excelled at everything he put his mind to do.
Loved ones described the teen as a brilliant young man who had been looking forward to a bright future.
"He was just a fantastic guy. He was really good academically, in creative arts and at sport as well - he was a very good hockey player," his uncle, Peter Flannery, said.
Jake celebrated the end of his HSC at the selective Gosford High School just a few weeks ago.
He had been planning to unwind in Bali before studying either photography or social media.
