I'm only in yr11, but i have a good idea of where i expect to be ranked.

Physics (3/20)
Ext 1 maths (3/30)
Ext 2 maths (3/8)
Standard English (1/60)
Engineering (2/12)

School rank 250ish

What do you think? For a couple of these my estimated rank is a little pessimistic :p haha could possibly get 2 in maths and physics and 1 in engineering. Definitely going to try harder next year.

I just find it hard to believe that with those ranks, if you were in James Ruse, that would be an automatic 99.9 +

Can anyone explain why it is like that? Everybody is doing the same exam.

You would probably get 95 +

You shouldnt settle for those ranks especially as you have heaps of time to improve and push yourself to the limits.

But yeh 95+

It's because they have a strong cohort, so a person ranked 50th could be smarter than a kid ranked 1st at a school ranked 2nd at a school ranked 300th. Therefore, the kid at ruse will get a higher mark in the same exam and so they'd get better marks and get an 99.9+

That's the basic gist of it anyway.

It's a cruel system.

I don't think so; after all the ruse kid would cream the kid ranked 2nd if they went to the same school XD
Mmm.. cream.. that's one of the things my school has in common with Ruse - we have farms [ours is bigger, cooler and more farm-ier] and cows [same with the first [box]].

@OP: Bit early but if you're consistent then you'll probs end up with 95.

Hypothetical. What if you acquired the same rank, yet you went to a school ranked in the late 500s?

78-82 depending on cohort

but that student can just as well get 99+ if their cohort manages to put their school rank in the top 10 :)

Thats a big discrepancy between a school ranked in the top 150 with a school ranked in the late 500.
