erm, in fitzpatrick 3unit, within the simple harmonic motion section, they always refer to the mean position. I am currently misunderstanding whether the mean position means:
t=0(time equals 0)
displacement=0
or whenever the harmonic motion graph crosses the x-axis(that is, the 'roots')

the mean position is the centre of motion and is the midpoint of the extremes of motion. This may or may not be when x=0. for example, if x=sint, mean position is x=0. but if x= 4+sint, mean position is x=4.
