pls help, im currently on 12 units which are 3u math, adv eng, eco, bio, legal, sor1. considering only our school ranks matter and our marks dont rlly matter, am i screwed that i scored approx 45% on an ext1 math exam (i heard that some ppl also failed)? also since ext1 math is a high scaling subject, is this mark better or worse than scoring like 70-80% in a lower scaling subject?? (asking cuz i scored decent in legal but it is low scaling)

AND also if i am averaging like 70% in my past 2 exams (for majority of my subjects), does that mean i am capped at like a 70 atar (idk cuz some teachers r like achieving 60% in an exam is equivalent to a 60 atar, achieving 70% is equivalent to a 70 atar etc)?? PLEASE HELP i am literally crashing out rn 😭😭

btw, considering my marks, do u think it is still possible to achieve a 90+ atar if i put in A LOT more effort??
THANK YOU FOR READING N PLS REPLY 😊😊 HAVE A GOOD DAY!!

i feel like it really depends on your school. if your school does crazy hard tests then 45% would turn into a much better score in the hsc. i suggest checking how many band 6 and 5s in maths ext your school usually gets each year and then compare that to your current ranks (e.g if your school had a total of 30 ppl getting band 5 and 6's and ur rank is in the top 30 u'll be fine.) also math extension scales rly well like if u get a raw mark of 55 or smth i recall it contributes 90 to your atar alr. dw

tysm!! unfortunately my school gatekeeps ranks and won't let us know at all (even if we ask) but i do know that some people in the ext1 cohort performed exceptionally well...

how about on hscninja from the years prior? you can count the b6's to get an indicator

no not at all, your mark internally doesnt align to ur atar whatsoever basically... if you get like 60% in external HSC exams then that will get aligned but will also only contribute 50% of your HSC mark, and your cohorts overall performance + your internal ranking will determine your internal mark and those get averaged to make up your overall HSC mark; so your internal raw marks dont mean much

its very unlikely your school exams will mimic the style/difficulty of the HSC exams so its not really a good determinant of your performance externally, and even so, as u near the end of the year you're going to have built up more skills and have practiced more so you will probably do better, so ur definitely not capped ur teachers are capping

I wasn't particularly happy with some of my ext1 internal marks in year 12 but they were sufficient for me to get a 3rd rank at the end, since in my class there were 3 others who did significantly better than the rest of the class (they did 4u). It's unfortunate that your teachers are gatekeeping ranks but you just have to ensure you're outperforming others in your class. If you're saying that others have failed the same assessments then it shouldn't be the worst for you rank wise since you're fairly close to 50%. However you don't have to worry much about scaling since even a 45% exam mark will scale to a 70 for the hsc. If you can attain a 70 raw mark that's even better since that puts you above 90, which is consistent with your goal.

anyone can get a great atar if they put in enough effort

i think we should aim for at least 90% in 2U and 70% in ext and that's totally attainable dont worry
