Alternative ways to do medicine (1 Viewer)

Hey guys, i've recently discovered im really interested in medicine, i havent done the umat, so i'll do that next year. But are there alternative ways to enter medicine say by doing another degree, or part of another one?

I heard if you really smash med sci at unsw you have a shot, but the other way is doing an undergrad degree+GAMSAT and then getting in postgrad.

doing med sci or sci getting awesome marks, and a gr8 mark in gamsat and you can get into postgrad med

a lot of work, for something you might hate...

yep. i know many of my friends who did biomed and got in post grad med at either Monash or UMelb.

the other way is to go to another country, study med there and prep for the australian medica licencing exams for foreign trained doctors. but this might not be so practical though.

Actually you can do any other degree then apply to most undergraduate courses in Australia as a non-standard entrant. Of course you'll need to sit the UMAT exam and meet the GPA criteria but you'll stand the same chance as someone who's applied as a school leaver. If you want, you can finish a degree before pursuing entry as a graduate doing the GAMSAT exam. What the others are talking about are some specialised schemes where certain numbers of medical school interviews/places are allocated to people who study certain courses at some Unis like the B. Sci --> Med in USyd and Med Sci --> Med in UWS for example. There's plenty of info and medical students/prospective students willing to help on med school entry at the MedicalStudentsOnline forums so I encourage you to create an account and start posting there as well.
