On rawmarks website, you click on physics and you see
raw mark = 59/100 aligned mark 85/100
what does this mean and how does this work

If you add up the marks you got for all the questions on the exam and it was 59/100, then your ‘exam mark’ would be 85/100.

What?
I add up all my marks in the HSC PHysics tests which would equal to 59/100 then it becomes 85/100????

Yes. Although it does vary a bit from year to year.

The scaled mark is the mark that goes into calculating your ATAR - done by UAC. The aligned mark is the mark you see on your HSC document - done by NESA. They are two independent ways to treat the same raw mark for different purposes.

I have tried to maintain accuracy of the database, and in this instance, it does seem hard to believe that a 59/100 could be aligned to 85, but there were reasons for accepting it and giving the student the benefit of the doubt.

To be conservative, it might be best to ignore that mark and refer to the other 2019 marks. I can confirm the rest have all been validated.

Would getting a 70 and aligned to 85 a believable mark?

Yes. 2019 was the first HSC examination for the new Physics Stage 6 syllabus. It's not unreasonable for there to be large shifts from the norm when there has been a substantial change. Similar case in Biology.

What is the case in Biology? I thought it aligned/scaled down last year for some reason?
