no one gives a shit about prelims, just pass. anyway other than chem (never did it) all those subjects barely need studying anyway even for mat ext 1 for yr 11.

just be ready for yr 12 mat ext 1 because if you're getting like 80%s for yr 11 mat ext 1 you're probably gonna get less than 60-70% in year 12

yr 11 doesn't count for shit and, except for maths and a BIT for science, none of the prelim material is required for yr 12.

Don't try to get good marks in yr 11. instead try to experiment and learn HOW to get good marks so you know what works and what doesn't. If you don't know what i mean, i'll give you an example. Say for english you are used to writing a practise essay and regurgitating it in the test while simply throwing in the question here and then, experiment with a more flexible approach. e.g. you can memorise a bunch of quotes and create a general scaffold for an essay that you can mould in the exam room. If this works better for you, then you can use this style in yr 12.

Similarly, for chemistry you should try to learn what gets you the marks and what doesn't because answering science questions is kind of an art. You have to mention specific key words in order to get the marks and you must use a ruler for all drawings etc and sig figs. All these little things are annoying in yr 12 and can be easily mastered in yr 11.

But once again, i remind you it is not the MATERIAL that is important but the experimentation with exam techniques and studying patterns that is important in yr 11.

If i regret nething in yr 11 it was not doing this at all... i was just worried about getting good marks and it meant that i just stuck with one system that may or may not have gotten me the best ATAR i could achieve.

but for maths you should study regularly because it forms a good foundation for yr 12.

Although Prelim results are not counted towards the final HSC mark, Year 11 is actually a very important year for you to experiment with different study habits and find the right one that suits you the best. Besides learning to work most efficiently, a lot of what you learn in Prelim becomes the essential foundation work for HSC, I don't know about Business Studies or Music, but it certainly is the case with Maths and Chemistry.
For Maths, do the homework your teacher sets you, if there's a problem, never be afraid to ask, who knows, it could well turn up in your next exam!! Make sure you get as much practice as you can, because knowing how to do the questions isn't sufficient, you've got to work very fast AND accurately as well.
For Chemistry, write dot points. start with one textbook and then move on to get a more comprehensive understanding by looking into other textbooks. The easiest marks in Chem are the calculation ones, eg moles, heat of combustion.
For English, read widely to improve expressions. I don't think you need to write an essay/week for Prelim yet, but it definitely is advised for HSC.
I'd say you need to spend about an hour for each subject, but be flexible. Devote more time when assessments are coming up. Good luck!

Just go to class, and makes sure you understand everything that is taught. Maybe try to suck up to the teachers a little, as they'll be marking all of your assessments next year, and have fun so you do not burn out.
