Adolescent themes and cliches in belonging creative writing pieces? (1 Viewer)

Not sure if anyone's asked this before but yeah, should we steer clear of using such said cliches such as using a schoolyard setting for a creative writing piece? And should we also avoid using adolescent themes such as depression, drug abuse, suicide and the impact of anti-social behaviour such as joining peer-groups, cause I was thinking of the latter as an example of not-belonging and the impact of relationships and connections to the forging of identities in regards to belonging. Thanks.

If you can pull it off really well then there is no reason why you should steer clear of it.
