Hi All,

I had originally planned on studying a combined Engineering (aero) and science (comp) course, but I also enjoy economics (a lot), and plenty of people have been telling me to do an arts degree because it's "good for you", so now I sort of want to do all three (Eng, Comp Sci, Eco).

Realistically, I can only study two as a double degree. If I were to do a combined BA in economics (which Sydney offers) and a Bachelor of Engineering, would I be able to take a few computer science courses as part of an arts degree? (Do double degrees take up elective units?).

(I'm sorry if this is a n00b question, I'm quite confused)

You can do elective units in double degrees, but it will stretch out the degree. At least after the 1st year of a double degree, the task of completing requirements for 2 majors as well as making room for electives starts to look difficult without spacing out the major's requirements even longer.

It could depend on the uni, but I'm assuming a specific structured degree like Engineering is a lot less flexible in terms of units (compared to Arts or Science). If a few computer science units are the only electives you're interested in, then you probably won't mind. But look into what the B Eng requires for its streams/specialisations and try to figure out if you can squeeze some electives in there.
