what is actuarial studies ? what is it about ? what kinds of things do u study for ? what kind of opportunities would these graduates have ? some of my friends are interested in this course and they said if ure good at maths u would be suitable with this course [even though im not]. as for me, i decided i would like to continue my study with commerce/arts, but im unsure about which major i would take for the commerce part. so any opinions would be appreciated.

thanks in advanced.

Actuaries look at probabilities of unfavourable incidents like car accidents, floods etc. to help insurance companies set premiums on life insurance, superannuation, car insurance etc.

At uni you do mathematics, economics, business, statistics and a couple of others, look it up. The only problem is only six universities in Australia offer it.

Jobs as an actuary are pretty exclusive as there are few spots, but in the next few years they will open up because of all the natural disasters which insurance companies have to pay big money for.

The pay is very good. usually in other areas you dont get paid a decent salary while you learn but with actuarial studies you do.

It is a really good course to consider. The only problem is I was told the maths can be really daunting. The Guy i talked to said if you cant stay in on a friday night to do 4 hours of Maths, the course probably isnt for you. So you really have to love maths

you probably can work overseas. My friends dad is an actuary and he goes to china to do business a lot, he gets paid like 2000 a day or something ridiculous while hes there. so yeah, although im not completely sure, the degree is probably recognised worldwide.
