40% in physics or an 80% in a shitty subject (1 Viewer)

i got my marks back for physics and i got a 10/24 (42%) and i really want to drop it (i do 14 units - language at staurday school) my mum isn't letting me drop physics bc she thinks a 42% in physics is better than my 80% in my language (arabic continuers) which really pisses me off

she wants me to drop the language and continue with physics, according to her i should drop the language now and then drop physics later which makes no sense bc i can drop physics now and the language later which makes no difference???????


im not sure if this is how it works but i put my raw marks as the scaled mark
ik it's too early for this but i want to understand why does my mum think a 40% in physics is better than an 80% in arabic like plz

can someone help me convince her to let me drop?

It's true that physics scales significantly better than Arabic, but at most that's a difference of maybe 10 marks when scaled (sorry, I don't have time to actually calculate it). There shouldn't be any subject where there's such a big difference - even if we were talking about ext 2 maths and some extremely low scaling subject, and raw marks not aligned ones, an 80% should always be better than 40%

Maybe your mum has heard that Arabic scaling is bad? Could you explain to her that it doesn't make such a difference?

No she agrees i should drop both physics and arabic but she thinks that physics should be dropped after prelims
idk why she's controlling it so much

I feel like the reason why she wants you to keep physics is because she hopes that in time, you'll get better marks and won't have to drop it

It's rlly frustrating if she won't listen Could you ask her to explain why she thinks that way, in case there's a misunderstanding?

lowkey i think 40% raw in 2022 ext 2 might scale better than 80% raw in aboriginal studies or smth (not entirely sure tho could be trippin but ifl that's the highest scaling 40% u could get)

Ah yes mb, although the scaling difference between physics and Arabic is much less

Also, this is percentile not raw mark, and the ext 2 maths cohort is extremely strong, so it's much easier to get a high percentile rank in aboriginal studies
