NSW UAI: 100.00

I’m offering tutoring in the subjects listed below, at a rate of $25 an hour, between 1pm-6pm on weekdays and 10am-5pm on weekends.

I'm located in the eastern suburbs, and unfortunately can't do any excessive travelling - UNSW library and the Bowen Library would be ideal locations. PM me if you're interested.

English (Advanced)

As well as offering general proofreading, essay deconstruction and in-depth advice, and essay writing tips, I can provide specialised help with the following Module texts listed below. Please note, however, that I am not in the business of writing essays for you, as that would not benefit any serious English student – instead I will help you develop the flair and sophistication I believe is necessary for a band six result.

Texts studied:
• Area of Study – Melvyn Bragg’s On Giants’ Shoulders; various stimulus texts
• Module A: Comparative Study of Texts and Context – David Malouf’s An Imaginary Life and William Wordsworth’s selected poetry
• Module B: Critical Study of Text – Orson Welles’ Citizen Kane
• Module C: Powerplay – William Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra

English Extension 1

I offer similar help with English Extension, having studied the Retreat from the Global elective.

Texts studied:
• Alistair MacLeod’s The Last Salt Gift Of Blood
• Rob Sitch’s The Castle
• Seamus Heaney’s selected poetry

English Extension 2

I’m willing to act as your personal mentor for this subject, to complement the advice of your own teachers and others whose help you’ve enlisted. This would include detailed proofreading of your work, discussions regarding its creative direction and suggestions regarding style and possibly content.

History Extension

I can particularly assist you with how to approach the initial historiography unit, as well as the project which accounts for a fair portion of your assessment mark (this would include giving you access to my own).

Topics studied:
What is History? – with a particular focus on changing approaches to history through time and schools of thought such as postmodernism, Rankeanism/empiricism and relativism
Appeasement – various scholarly resources available

About 10 or so students get 50/50 each year; these 50s are ranked.

I also topped EE1 at my school, with an internal assessment mark of 48/50. A panel of judges compared our essays, I have no doubt about it.

c_james... are you a heavy pill user? I'm just wondering if it is still possible for me to achieve such a high UAI while munching on the bicks every weekend?

Considering you graduated in 2004, I'll just politely ask that you not hijack this thread again...

Thanks for the bump anyway.

Yeah, I've been thinking about doing that - your sister's success story has given me further resolve :).

Can't be too hard to find kids to tutor- considering your UAI and all!

And at $25/hr... that's pretty good value compared to the extraordinary prices some other people charge for half-assed services.

BTW as a tip; I got most of my tutors from my friends... as in, they were either my friend beforehand (grade above me) or they were my friend's bro/sis... one of my tutors I got her add off a bulletin board at the local library when I was standing there one day. Maybe you could advertise at your old school? I'm sure the principal/teachers will still be impressed with your UAI and be willing to help you 'spread the goodness'?
