    Amme2500 & Phys2911/2011

I'm fairly sure quite a few people will have this clash. I want to see if we can get enough people from here to contact them about it :) To me it seems a bit stupid for them to have 2 lectures on AMME2500 at different times on the same day. Anyway, if you have this clash, post here and let...

    civil/commerce at usyd or unsw?

There are big debates about whether commerce is better at usyd than at unsw. I don't think there was any conclusion reached. As for engo, they are both probably the same. It just comes down to what subjects you are interested in (UNSW may offer some that sydney doesn't) but the core subjects...

Is the standard model worth learning anymore?

Dude, there is plenty of evidence for the standard model. There are a lot of fringe groups in science who think general relativity is wrong too, but that doesn't mean you should forget about it.

    Electromagnetic Vectors

I think they might be referring to the right hand set rule (is that what it's called)? For point charges moving through magnetic fields and so on, you can predict the direction in which the force will act. I think thats the only thing to do with vectors that you touch on in the HSC.

Do you need to know how a transistor works?

I did the HSC last year, and if i can remember correctly, no you don't need to know how transistors or diodes work in any great detail. Just know what P and N type doping is...

How do u know how much to write?

They aren't asking you to write a literary masterpiece. All you have to do is communicate effectively. If you can't do that then you better learn fast or you will be next to useless to employers or in further education.

How do u know how much to write?

The number of marks is the best indication of how much to write. As for what to write, make sure you read the question. Usually you can pick up at least 3 points from the question to write about. Include any relevent laws (Cons of energy/Faradays law/whatever) and equations, and background...

    Tower of Terror physics problem

Dude! For the height of the tower, E = mgh will suffice. At the bottom of the tower the E = 1/2 * m * v^2. All of this KE is converted into GPE, so GPE (at the top) = KE (at the bottom): mgh = .5mv^2 h = (.5 * v^2) / g (the masses cancel) I'll let you sub in the numbers...

Is friction a constant or a fraction of travelling speed?

OK, mr pedantic: Assume the car is on a flat, level surface. Happy?

Is friction a constant or a fraction of travelling speed?

Everything in classical mechanics comes back to the good old 2nd law of newton: F = m*a More generally, it can be said that the sum of the forces acting on a body will result in an accelleration. Now on a car moving along the ground you have several forces acting - weight, friction...

Rounding off answers -- whats the rule?

Technically your answer to part A is only accurate to the least number of significant figures they give you in the data. So say if they gave you g = 9.81 and this was the number with the least sig figs, it would be all you could give your answer to (ie 3 sig fig). You would then use this answer...

    aeronautical or aeronautical (space) -_-!

The real aero industry is overseas. If you end up doing aero expect to move overseas at some point in your career, as most of the jobs in australia are maintenance style jobs.

    Timetables changed?

It changed because it regenerates it every time you look at it on the net. Which means that the last timetable you see on the net is the one you use.
