    Battery Assignment

You might want to confirm with your teacher on that one, whether it will or will not be a disadvantage, since you cant really interrelate those two cells. We were specifically told to do something that could relate with one another in terms of uses. e.g. Lead-Acid + Vanadium, Dry +...

    criticise my syllabus summary!

Technically speaking, the catalyst in hydration of ethene is the H+ in the acid. Hence industrially, the use of dilute phosphoric acid, and in the laboratory, dilute sulfuric acid. H+ is required because ethene and water will not readily attack each other, and hence will NOT react to form...

    advice about subjects

Following the advice of our vice-principal/UAI calculator, if your extension is alot better than your advanced, then it will count. If they're similar, then the likelihood of ext. counting before your advanced is slim to none. So, if english isn't your forte and your ext. marks are only slightly...

    criticise my syllabus summary!

First of all, corrections: Common name: styrene Systematic name: ethenylbenzene/phenylethene your preference, personally, i chose phenylethene =P 'attracting many electronegative elements' I don't think you would have been taught that, and any book utilising that phrase should be burnt! But...

    Knocking off Ruse

When did we start being on top? i believe it was somewhere around '95, when we took Syd Grammar's Place When will we be knocked off? Since not this year, not for many years to come. Ruse '05 is/was the dumbest year. Ruse '06 is brilliant, comparable to Ruse '03 and '04 Who will knock us off...

    Best tutoring colleges

Terry Lee is the tops for 4u =) Highly recommended. He's also avaliable at Pre-Uni Strathfield, but unless you have a scholarship there, you should go to his bankstown classes

Which Excel books for year 11

I doubt a syllabus change is likely. As for the excel books, the biology ones are quite good. I wouldn't bother with excel chemistry, its a disgraceful study guide, the macquarie revision guide for chemistry is ALOT better. Not particularly sure abt the rest of the excel books Most of the...

Wouldn't that have been the case even before they reduced the places? Unless, you forgot to do the STAT. XD.

    orbitals

Doesn't matter, they're quite similar =P. One of my friends insists on using Zumdahl because apparently its layout is better. As for me, Silberberg happened to be the easier one to obtain.

    Oxidation numbers

No, you're not. the H2O and H+ are required for the reaction to proceed. EXT: There is an alternative soln: MnO4^- + 4H+ + 3e- --> MnO2 + 2H2O is only applicable in acidic solns. We may convert this equation for basic solns by adding OH- to both sides MnO4^- + 4H+ + 4OH- + 3e- -->...

    Oxidation numbers

Though it may be true in the reduction of MnO4- to MnO2, the oxygen's oxidation number does not change, it is NOT a spectator ion, since MnO4- and MnO2 are individual compounds that will not dissociate in aqueous soln (unlike NaCl for e.g. in which components may be treated separately) they must...

nah, all my knowledge comes from the ramblings of my chem-obsessed friends.. i think one of them went to ACHO

    orbitals

If you copied it from a website you can't totally sure of its reliability =P. Checked Silberberg's Chemistry; The Molecular Nature of Matter and Change, 3rd ed, p.g 396 "The 2s and all the three 2p orbitals of C are mixed to form 4 sp3 hybrids. Carbon's four valence electrons half-fill the...

Because you haven't actually experienced St. Johns. Its a horrible college, bruce hall and ursula are alot better.

    draw sections of polyethylene

Admittedly I'm lazy and relatively computer illiterate, but couldn't you just look at Conquering's answers? I imagine you'll get a similar diagram. Didn't bother to do the investigative tasks either

    orbitals

methane.. or carbon? methane undergoes sp3 hybridisation, so the electron orbitals of the 2nd shell of the central carbon atom aren't s & p at all. carbon is 1s2 2s2 2p2. i dont think we usually distinguish between the 3 'p orbitals' in writing electron configurations.
  18. X

    orbitals

I think inherently all atoms have all the orbitals, its simply a matter if they are filled or not. You can have a filled s orbital and filled p orbitals, they are not exclusive of one another. e.g. Sodium's electron confriguration is 1s2, 2s2, 2p6, 3s1

    confused...

Technically, since Pb(IV) oxide is ionic, yes it is the same thing. But by convention, the formula of ionic compounds such as Pb(IV) oxide is empirical, giving the relative numbers of ions of each type in the compound, in the lowest common ratio

    Biopolymer ???

The fact that you've never heard of it doesn't mean PHB isnt polyhydroxybutyrate. In fact PHB is commonly known as polyhydroxybutyrate. If you attempted to systematically name it, it would be polyhydroxybutanoate. As for the biopolymer, i think the easiest one to choose is Biopol: a...
