    NIDA, UWS or CSU???

They tend to advise against 'self devised' pieces which I think includes working songs like that. It'd probably cause you less stress aswell if you just found a scripted piece, maybe an Australian piece because the schools seem to be focusing on those ???

    NIDA, UWS or CSU???

Yeah, what I meant was that my monologue was barely coherant at 8 minutes (because it was based on the novel 'Mists of Avalon' by Marion Zimmer Bradely and required a little explanation of the story within). If I cut it down to 2 it would just be a jumble of words to those watching. Good luck...

    NIDA, UWS or CSU???

I was thinking of using my HSC monologue but it doesn't really work because of the time limit so I am forced to learn another in the week after my exams end (because drama is of course on the very last day) end. I'm lucky thought because it looks like if I choose properly I can use one monologue...

    The Dumb Waiter

I agree with this to certain degree but there are still a number of people who don't know what to expect when seeing a play. My response was made under the assumption that you were speaking about an audience who would not be experienced with the plays (which, coincidently were not written...

    The Dumb Waiter

It seems to me that alot of audiences laugh not because they find a piece funny but because they don't quite know the right way to react to something that seems to take them out of their comfort zone. Having said that though most of the absurdist pieces I have read are quite witty in one way or...

    NIDA, UWS or CSU???

to trina233 It shouldn't really matter that you did set design instead because they mainly look at your audition (I think). They want to see if they can build on raw talent rather than seeing a really well tutored actor who's stuck in the conventions taught to them so "not having the pract to...

in one sentence: my IP/GP is about...

IP: How not doing anything when you don't like the alternative can do even more damage. GP: How human passion can destroy inhuman entities and the balance of their existence. The entities are representations of "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. I know, the GP had two sentences but...

    OnStage?

I agree that really sucks. I was sitting here reading the posts about how ppl hate it that Newtown gets a lot of nominations and all I coudl think was "what about the country kids" I'm glad sum1 said it before me. Our class was the strongest it has been in a long time with at least three ppl who...

    NIDA, UWS or CSU???

All three I'm applying for all three very soon, but I haven't chosen for sure which pieces I'm using for the auditions. It's kind of time-consuming and time isn't exacty something I have a lot of right now. I'll have the applications in on time but the actual pieces will have to wait a week or...

    The Dumb Waiter

Well I don't know if this helps you anymore but in this play, as in many other absurd pieces, suspence and comedy are combined by a number of techniques, the main being pausing (usually depending on the director) and irony (eg, the irony of a hired hitman being disgusted by the slaughter of a...
